Q. Media Shout is not opening correctly from my new Windows Vista operating system?
A. At this time, MediaShout is NOT supported on Windows Vista operating system. MediaShout 3 which will support Windows Vista system, will be released as soon as it is available from MediaShout.
Q. How are the songs selected for each Song DISCovery volume?
A. Every song is listened to in what we refer to as the sifting process. During that time we hone the amount of songs we receive down from an average of 2,000 per listening period to a final of about 25. This is done by examining each song through the lens of our five criteria for worship music: production quality, style diversity, worship function, lyrical poetry & accessibility, and biblical faithfulness. Those 25 songs then go before a listening board of, usually, 8 to 10 worship leaders, industry professionals, church pastors and Christian musicians. The board critically listens to each song with even closer attention to the five criteria, and then they vote. The songs with the highest scores are what you hear on the next Song DISCovery volume.
Q. How do you find the songs?
A. Only Song DISCovery subscribers are eligible to submit music. Our subscribers include major and independent record labels and publishers, as well as churches, non-profit ministries and individuals.
Q. We'd like to make photocopies of the lead sheet for our musicians. How do we get permission to do so?
A. If you have a church license with CCLI, you may make photocopies of the lead sheet for any song that is covered by CCLI, if it is for congregational use only. You may not make photocopies for performance use without first obtaining permission from the song copyright owner(s). The song copyright owner(s) is listed on the inside panel of your Song DISCovery disc. If you do not have a CCLI license, you can obtain one by calling 800.234.2446.
Q. Do you have accompaniment trax for the songs?
A. We do not have trax available with the service. The recordings are compiled on Song DISCovery for each song and are obtained from the companies that own the master recording. We do not have a license or permission to provide accompaniment trax. Many of the recording companies do have individual trax for their songs. You can obtain more product information by contacting them at their 800 numbers or Web site addresses which are listed on the inside panel of your Song DISCovery disc.
Q. Do you have octavos, anthems or SATB print folios for the songs?
A. We do not have SATB print music available with the service. We do not have a license or permission to print and publish SATB or folios. Many of the companies do have individual SATB or accompaniment music for their songs. You can obtain more product information by contacting them at their 800 numbers and Web site addresses which are listed on the inside panel of your Song DISCovery disc.
Q. Why are there so many different musical styles?
A. Song DISCovery is designed to be a worship resource service gathering and distributing a variety of song selections to serve the diverse needs of worship leaders ministering to congregations. These leaders reflect youth, gospel, contemporary, alternative, pop, traditional, liturgical and blended musical interests and styles. Each CD is a compilation comprised of original recordings from a wide range of recording production quality provided by major record labels and publishers, indie recording companies, non-profit ministries and churches. While we attempt to produce a CD that is a worshipful listening experience, our primary goal is to present the best new worship songs, no matter what the source, to worship leaders, so they can review and find new songs for a variety of uses in their worship services.
Q. Why is the CCLI Heart Seeker selection often a song that I've already heard and used with my congregation?
A. The CCLI Heart Seeker features a song that is rapidly rising on the CCLI Top 2000 Chart. We provide this bonus song to measure the pulse of churches and reflect songs that are currently touching the heart of worship in the body of Christ. We want to make sure that those worship leaders who aren't familiar with the song have a chance to hear it on Song DISCovery.
Q. Why did you stop printing the lead sheet booklet?
A. Much of the customer feedback we received has resulted in creating an electronic version for your convenience. Easily printable lead sheets, live links to advertisers’ Web sites, expanded editorial and other features are now available with this new format.
Q. I can’t open the lead sheets (or PowerPoint slides).
A. Under the “software” tab on your Song DISCovery CD, you can download Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the lead sheets or PowerPoint viewer to open the PowerPoint slides.
Q. When I click on the song title, the song is supposed to play, but I don’t hear anything.
A. Here are a few ideas for troubleshooting this:
- Are your speakers turned on and turned up to a sufficient volume?
- Does the disc play in your boom box, car or home CD player? If it does, then there may be a problem with how your computer is programmed to play MP3s.
- Your computer must have Windows 98 or later (Win 2000, WinXP) to operate the CD (or a Macintosh with OS 9.0 or later).
Q. When I click on a link to the Internet from the lead sheet PDF, my computer downloads the Web page rather than opening my Web browser
A. Go to the “edit” menu on your browser (or File menu on version 4.0) > Preferences > Web Capture and in the drop down menu for “open Web links, choose “in Web browser” rather than “in Acrobat.” Then click “OK.” You will notice that when your cursor passes over a link it becomes a pointing finger.
Q. The “Information Bar” in Internet Explorer warns me each time I open the “click_me.htm” file or a PDF.
A. In Internet Explorer, on the “tools menu,” click “Internet options.” On the “advanced” tab, scroll down to the “security” section of the list. Select the “allow active content to run in files on my computer” check box, and then click “OK.” (Note: This will lower your security level to allow any Web site to run scripts and ActiveX controls on your computer. After browsing, you may want to unselect the “OK” button to return your computer to its previous state.)
Q. Can I burn a copy of one song from the disk to give to my band members for rehearsal purposes?
A. We do not own the master usage licenses to these songs so, unfortunately, we cannot grant you permission to copy these songs. However, we suggest you contact the record labels for permission, as they are willing to work with you. Each record label has different stipulations for master usage.
Q. How can I subscribe to Song DISCovery?
A. You may use the
subscribe form on our web site or call 1.888.881.5861.
Q. How can I advertise on the resources pages of the Song DISCovery CD or in the Lead Sheet Booklet?
A. Check out the
advertising section on our website or call 615.620.4456.
Q. What’s the difference between the bonus tracks and the regular tracks?
A. Bonus tracks are positions on the CD paid for by advertisers who want their songs heard in the Church. These spots guarantee your songs will be heard by 20,000 subscribers (they are still subject to review by the Song DISCovery manager and the editorial board).
