About Scott

After 14 years on staff at Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago, my wife, Vonda, and I moved to Dallas, Texas in 2004.  I am the pastor of worship and arts at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship, in Carrollton, Texas.  I have the privelege of leading an incredible team of godly, gifted artists, and we absolutely love life here.  We're a church of about 4500, and we'll be moving into a new 3200 seat auditorium at the end of the year.  Bent Tree is the best-kept secret in Dallas.  Our pastor, Pete Briscoe, is a great partner to me and very supportive of the arts.  He's one of the most gifted communicators and leaders I've ever worked with.
If you recognize my face, it's probably from a Willow Creek conference.  While at Willow, I was a worship leader, singer, songwriter, creative consultant, and I helped develop a lot of product for the Willow Creek Association, including 9 CD's and books such as Rory Noland's Heart of the Artist.
Since this community is primarily about songs, I'll highlight some.  We released our first Bent Tree CD, Still Amazed:Live Worship at Bent Tree, back in the fall of 2006, and one of the songs, "Not I But Christ", was featured on Song Discovery 61.  The title track, "Still Amazed" is being done in several churches already, and is one of our congregation's favorites.
From my Willow days, my song, "Forgive Me", was recorded by Rebecca St. James on her latest CD, along with BarlowGirl, who were voice students of my wife.  The story of how that all happened is really cool.  I blogged about it on my MySpace page, if you're interested-www.myspace.com/scottdyermusic.  Other songs I wrote at Willow Creek include "Everything I Am", "He Was", "Lay Your Burdens Down", "Only By Grace", "Strength in You", "Have No Fear", "Evidence", "For the Beauty of the Earth", and "Face of Forgiveness".
Vonda and I have 2 precious and awesome little girls-Delaney, who is 4, and Avery, who just turned one.  Although I became a Christian at Willow Creek in high school, and consider that my spiritual home, we love Dallas and Bent Tree and hope we are here for a long, long time.  Hope you enjoy the music.  Please feel free to send me a message and connect!

Scott: So many to choose from but two or three that seem to resonate with our folks would be Paul Baloche’s “Your Name”, Israel Houghton’s “Sweeter” and Chris Tomlin … “How Can I Keep From Singing.

Hey Scott, Our church has really latched on to “Revelation Song” (as others have also mentioned) and “My Savior Lives” from New Life Church. We taught that one last Easter and have continued using it all year. Blessings, Jon

Hi Scott, Our church has really responded to Majestic, which I follow with a very old song (some of you might be to young to remember) called Great and Mighty is He. It grabs the youth and the “not so youthful” as well. Also, Chris Tomlin’s Glory in the Highest has been a favorite. Really lifts the praises. Blessings, Jackie

Hi Scott, my church really loves “Unchanging” by Chris Tomlin. Hands immediately go up at the chorus. We recently introduced “Mighty to Save” by Hillsongs. The youth especially like this one. Serving Him, Steven Brooks

Correction! City Quake is my home church(where I am considering stepping down from worship team and church membership) and not to be confused with my position at Celebrate Recovery which is at LifeHouse-Bethel and is a wonderful and fruitful ministry-a great place to start. I have, also done some youth ministry projects that turned out good for His purpose. In Jesus, NatTheCat(Nathaniel)

Attention Everyone! I am an evangelical type, currantly a music major in college, worship leader for local Celebrate Recovery, worship team at City Quake(considering stepping down; no fruit and very different opinions, I am praying on it and need prayer-thanks). I started LivingWaterMusic/Ministries and need outreach connections/sponsership so I can present ideas for music ministry events to my local community leaders/represenatives(Washington County, MD)and share the love of Jesus. If anyone has advice or direction I, and the Lord, would appreciate it. Please help me; I know I can do this and I need encouragement. Love in Jesus to All my Brothers & Sisters, NatTheCat(Nathaniel)

Scott, At Oasis we have several favorites. “Our Love Is Loud” by David Crowder has been out for a while, but our people love it. Recently I introduced Steve Fee’s new song “All Because of Jesus” and our people have really picked it up and sing it out. Our biggest song for the past year was by Todd Fields, and is called “Free”. I introduced it during a series we did called What’s Your Weakness, and when our people get to the bridge where it says “There is no condemnation, those who are in christ are free” it’s like the chains have come off and we’re about to launch. Great idea, I hope you get lots of responses

Scott, Although it is a few years old, I recently introduced “Jesus I Surrender” from Jeff Deyo’s Surrender project to our congregation; it was immediately embraced by the congregation, especially the youth. “By His Wounds,” Mac Powells recent release, was also a song they have taken to rather quikly. Blessings, Tommy

Hey Scott, Here at Gap Community Church we use many songs by Paul Baloche and Desperation Band, it’s difficult to only pick 2 of those, we do Hosanna, I Will Boast, Your Name, I Am Free, Everything to God, Endlessly, and Rescue, among others.

Great bulletin. Our church seems to be responding quite a bit through surrender lately, so a couple songs that are really meaning a lot are:
– “Everything” – Tim Hughes
– “Inside Out” – Hillsong

Caleb Clements – ROCKHARBOR church

Thanks, for the add, Scott. Our church has really taken to the song “Hear Us From Heaven.” We’re also learning some songs from Hillsong’s “Mighty to Save” album, which isn’t so new in itself, but new to our repretoire. “Mighty to Save” has been an amazing song of power and declaration. We are in the process of learning “Take It All” and “For Who You Are” off the album. Thanks, and God’s shalom to you and the community of Bent Tree!

Hey. I like the sharing songs idea. The two songs that have been great for our church that stand out are “Uncreated One” by Chris Tomlin and “Center” by Charlie Hall.

Hi Scott, As you mentioned, Revelation Song has become a very powerful worship tool in our church….although we have a more acoustic- driven version of it due to our instrumentation (piano, acoustic gtr, bass and drums). Another song that has become one of Psalm 150’s (our praise band) favorites is Derek Levendusky’s “Called to Know You”, off of SD 61 (I think). Lastly, a brand new one that we have yet to incorporate into worship, yet has turned our rehearsals of it into some very intense moments of worship for me is Shannon Wexelberg’s “Hail to the King”, off the latest SD. Thanks for sharing, Scott. Blessings to you, Mark Landon

Hey Scott! Thanks for the add. I really like your music. “Still Amazed” is an awesome song! I noticed your pictures on your myspace that you recently went to Brazil. My wife is Brazilian and we really have a heart to return there and minister together. I had the privilege of leading worship there a few times in Portuguese…it was a great experience! God bless you and your family, Scott!
